Seussical the Musical (2015)
The annual school musical is a highlight each year at NBCS. Young performers, supported by a committed team resulted in a highly professional and entertaining production of Seussical the Musical.
A host of beloved Dr Seuss characters – including Cat in the Hat (Lucas van Rhijn), Jojo (Thomas Palmer), Horton (Joshua Nila) and Gertrude McFuzz (Rosie Prince) – led the audience on an adventure through imaginary lands, with the central message resonating throughout: “A person’s a person no matter how small.”
The simplicity and creativity of the costumes and set allowed for the performers to shine as they brought the story to life. The students drew on a depth of musical and acting strengths in the production. As Cat in the Hat, Lucas presented a range of comedic influences, weaving a thread through the story and keeping the audience in stitches. Thomas, Josh, Rosie and the entire cast reinforced the themes of friendship, loyalty, family and community.
Director Jeff Fisher joined NBCS this year, presenting Seussical the Musical as his inaugral production for the school, building on the strong foundation of musicals since 2010. Jeff’s talent and dedication resulted in an exceptional show, and we are grateful for his oversight and leadership.
Jeff worked alongside a wonderful team supporting him as Director. The orchestra and instrumentation was led by Music Director Philip Rees, along with the creative support of Kara Harris as Choreographer and Ros Moore as Costume Director.
Working behind the scenes, Producer Tamara Buttrose and an extensive Production Crew worked to ensure a seamless production. A special mention should be made of the work of the NBCS students in the Student Production Team, looking after the show’s audio and lighting with professional excellence.
