Last week five of our 2019 HSC Drama students were featured in “Onstage – the best of HSC Drama”. Mrs Tolmie, Ms Gray, Mrs Archer and myself accompanied over 40 Drama students from Years 10-12 to watch the opening night of this event, and support our exemplar Drama alumni.
The day marked the beginning of the storms that have seen parts of Sydney flooded, and after a kerfuffle of rail buses, wet dashes through Ultimo, and slow food court lines, we made it to the Seymour Centre. NBCS’s “Operation Spooky” was met with huge applause; fans who have looked up to these older students for up to five years screaming their lungs out. The varied performances of the evening included a poignant monologue set inside a bathtub, a moving piece about nuclear testing on Indigenous lands, and a powerful story about three boys’ experience with ADD and Ritalin.
Operation Spooky was safely the funniest piece of the event (I’m not biased). The students, particularly the new Year 12s, have been inspired about their own upcoming HSC performances, which I too am excited about.
