“The Lord be with your spirit. Grace be with you all.”
– 2 Timothy 4:22
Term 4 can be a time of double vision. What do I need to finish now, and what do I need to put in place for what’s next? One thing that can make Term 4 easier for students is that the finishing touches now are the foundations for the learning that comes next.
Some of the most important conversations I have had with students have been to remind them to keep going and to keep growing. The student who doesn’t make the most of the opportunities in front of them right now then finds it harder to access the opportunities they want in the future. If we want to build a bigger, better version of ourselves, the building blocks needed tomorrow are developed today.
It has been a privilege to work with our Year 12 2022 students throughout their time at NBCS. We are delighted that they have made a strong start in their HSC examinations and wish them well as they continue until the HSC concludes on Friday 4 November. These exams will put the finishing touches on their school life. Their schooling and development will become the foundations of the life that beckons beyond school.
And as one chapter closes, another opens. Year 12 2023 look fantastic in their newly received Year 12 jerseys. They know that this term is a short term, and one that is densely packed. As they work through it, it will serve as a foundation for the remainder of their schooling and the year to come in 2023.
We think about the remarkable work that Ms Wade and Kindergarten have done this year. In many senses, Kindergarten is the “biggest” year of all at school. As they work towards the end of the school year, we are excited about the firm footing that they have established for their school journey.
We encourage all our students to make the most of their learning this term, to work hard, relate well, enjoy their time at school, and finish in such a way as to have a sure foundation for the learning that comes next.
As previously announced, Mrs Jenny Phillips has decided to finish at NBCS at the end of 2022. I am pleased to let you know that following the recruitment process, Mr Drew Dickson, currently Assistant Principal – Wellbeing at NBCS, has been appointed as Head of Secondary from 2023. We are grateful for the wonderful work that Mrs Phillips has done and grateful for a good handover. We look forward to Mr Dickson building on the foundational work of Mrs Phillips in the role.
“How we spend our days is how we spend our lives. A schedule defends from chaos and whim. It is a net for catching days. It is scaffolding on which a worker can stand and labour with both hands at sections of time.” – Annie Dillard
