Sport Movies to Watch with the Whole Family

We are excited to share with you a number of resources to keep you busy, entertained and active.

Greatest Sporting Movies to enjoy with the whole family. Perhaps you could suggest to everyone in your bubble to turn all devices off and watch a family movie together. Here are some of the Sport Departments favourites:

Blind Side – PG-13. 2 hrs 9mins. Starring Sandra Bullock. The story of Michael Oher, a homeless and traumatized boy who became an All-American football player and first-round NFL draft pick with the help of a caring woman and her family.
Coach Carter – PG-13. 2hrs 16mins. Starring Samuel L Jackson. Controversy surrounds high school basketball coach Ken Carter after he benches his entire team for breaking their academic contract with him.
Space Jam – PG. 1hr 28mins. Starring Michael Jordan. In a desperate attempt to win a basketball match and earn their freedom, the Looney Tunes seek the aid of retired basketball champion, Michael Jordan.
Remember the Titans – PG. 1hr 53mins. Starring Denzel Washington. The true story of a newly appointed African-American coach and his high school team on their first season as a racially integrated unit.
Dear Basketball – Not Rated. 6 mins. Starring Kobe Bryant. On November 29, 2015 Kobe Bryant penned a letter in the Players’ Tribune announcing his retirement from basketball at the end of that season. This short film is the visualization of that letter, narrated by Kobe.
A League of their Own – PG. 2hrs 8 mins. Starring Tom Hanks and Geena Davis. Two sisters join the first female professional baseball league and struggle to help it succeed amidst their own growing rivalry.
Bend it Like Beckham – PG-13. 1hr 52mins. Starring Parminder Nagra and Keira Knightley.  The daughter of orthodox Sikh rebels against her parents’ traditionalism and joins a football team.
Chariots of Fire – PG. 2hrs 5 mins. Two British track athletes, one a determined Jew, and the other a devout Christian, compete in the 1924 Olympics.
Hoop Dreams – PG-13. 2hrs 50mins. A film following the lives of two inner-city Chicago boys who struggle to become college basketball players on the road to going professional.
Karate Kid – PG. 2hr 20mins. Starring Jackie Chan and Jaden Smith. Work causes a single mother to move to China with her young son; in his new home, the boy embraces kung fu, taught to him by a master.
Dodgeball – PG-13. 1hr 32mins. Starring  Ben Stiller. A group of misfits enter a Las Vegas dodgeball tournament in order to save their cherished local gym from the onslaught of a corporate health fitness chain.
The Mighty Ducks – PG. 1hr 44mins. Starring Emilio Estevez. A self-centered Minnesota lawyer is sentenced to community service coaching a rag tag youth hockey team.
The Sandlot – PG. 1hr 41mins. In the summer of 1962, a new kid in town is taken under the wing of a young baseball prodigy and his rowdy team, resulting in many adventures.
Cool Runnings – PG. 1hr 38mins. Starring John Candy. When a Jamaican sprinter is disqualified from the Olympic Games, he enlists the help of a dishonored coach to start the first Jamaican Bobsled Team.
When We Were Kings – PG. 1hr 28mins. Starring Muhammad Ali. A documentary of the 1974 heavyweight championship bout in Zaire, “The Rumble in the Jungle,” between champion George Foreman and underdog challenger Muhammad Ali.
