Our new Chapel theme for Kindergarten to Year 12 is ‘Jesus through the eyes of others’.
I watched the new Superman movie recently. I loved it, and I would give it an 8/10. However, as I was online more, I noticed negative reviews coming out: “There were too many new characters. Clark Kent was barely in there. It was too political.” These comments really influenced me. Perhaps I should I give it a 6/10? However, I also noticed some really positive reviews: “This the superman who embodied hope and was trying to do good. His relationship with his earth parents will move you to tears. This movie is a comic book come to life.” Perhaps I should give it a 9.5/10?
Having seen the move through the eyes of others, I’d still give it an 8/10. But my 8/10 is more informed. It’s more solid and more certain. I have more insight I’m more aware of the nuances in the movie.
So, why attempt to see Jesus through the eyes of others? Hopefully, just like my movie experience, we can become more informed, more certain, and aware of the nuance of who Jesus is as we form our beliefs about him.
Each chapel, we will look at the different characters that Jesus interacts with in The Bible. How did they see him? The outcast. The lonely. The old. The young. The educated. The rulers. The foreigners. The familiar. The quick believers! The doubters. Also, we will hear from students and staff of all ages and stages in their faith journey.
