During National Reconciliation Week NBCS welcomed Brooke Prentis, a nationally recognised Aboriginal Christian leader, and a Wakka Wakka woman, to come and speak with our Primary and Secondary students, sharing a message of Indigenous reconciliation as friendship. Brooke participated in a breakfast with the Reconciliation Action Plan team, spoke at assemblies for Kindy to Year 6, and Years 10-12, and discussed Aboriginal spiritualities and dispossession with our Year 12 HSC Studies of Religion students.
Brooke spoke about how she dedicated her life as a 17-year-old to achieving equality and reconciliation for First Nations peoples. Brooke held out her hand of Aboriginal friendship and invited us to walk together. Brooke’s call to action for our NBCS students was an invitation to walk together in friendship. This is depicted in the image (pictured) that Brooke’s sister painted: “Will You?” by Wakka Wakka artist Jasmin Roberts/Prentis @MyTimeForDreaming.
