NBCS supports founding principles into the future

Every school has its own unique ‘flavour’. But as time moves on, staying true to that original flavour can become a challenge.

At 45 years old, Northern Beaches Christian School is on the cusp of generational change, with long-standing custodians of NBCS culture due to retire in the next few years.

Recently, the NBCS Board completed a process of documenting its founding principles, beliefs and values. The result was The Compass, a document that ensures continuity of purpose and character.

“It both reminds us of who we are as a School and tells us where we’re headed,” says Principal Tim Watson. “It’s a document that allows the NBCS Board to move into the future while staying true to our unique culture and our founders’ intents.”

The Compass is used as a touchpoint for the Board when looking at future directions. It has also enabled NBCS to have positive engagement with the school’s past.

“When we named our new STEM building for the founding family, it was lovely to share with them the ongoing shared vision and purpose that they had 45 years ago,” said Mr Watson. “I think they were heartened that what they had set out to do wasn’t being washed away. The Compass is going to support continuity, leadership and decision making into the future.”
