School and Home In Partnership

Welcome to 2024 at Northern Beaches Christian School.

At this time last year, I shared the words of Martin Luther King Jr, who wrote in 1947.

“We must remember that intelligence is not enough. Intelligence plus character – that is the goal of true education. The complete education gives one not only power of concentration, but worthy objectives upon which to concentrate.” – Martin Luther King Jnr.

We are once again delighted to share the privilege of partnership in the education of our students. We recognise the role that parents and families play in the development of young people. We acknowledge that it is a shared work, with common goals albeit with different roles.

Our focus, in line with our vision, Love Learning, is on the learning, or in Luther King’s words, the intelligence element of true education. We acknowledge that the focus of the home in line with true education is on the character of the child.

Our focus on learning does not absolve us from working on character, in the same way that the focus on character at home does not remove learning from the picture. The best outcomes occur when there is a mutuality of approach, where school and home work in partnership for the betterment of our students.

As I have noted before, when students, school and parents work together, it is hard for things to go wrong. When we don’t, it can be hard for them to go right. My hope for this year is that our ongoing partnership will prove richly rewarding in the education of all 1,220 of our young people.
