Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord. Colossians 3:23a
In the last couple of years, the NBCS Board worked to produce a document aligning the past, present and future of NBCS. In doing this, they sought to ensure the integrity, continuity, and congruence of what we do and how we do it. The Compass, is therefore an important document for our community, as it helps the NBCS Board and leadership navigate the present and into the future with clarity and purpose. The following is an abridged version of The Compass.
1. We will prepare students for tomorrow with faith, hope and love.
We exist to prepare our students for the uncertainties of tomorrow with the confidence and hope that come from a deep-rooted faith in God. Our mission is to partner with families in nurturing young minds and spirits, guiding them through their formative years with the wisdom of our faith, the rigour of our academic programs, and the warmth of our community.
2. We will nurture wisdom, character, and community through faith and education.
Our foundation in faith and our strong sense of community underpins everything we do. It is from this solid base that we launch into the wonderful adventure of education, equipped with the values and vision necessary to navigate and shape a rapidly changing world.
3. We will live lives of gratitude, respect, courage, compassion and commitment.
At NBCS, our core values are the heartbeat of our school community. They guide our actions, shape our culture, and inform our decisions. These values reflect who we are and provide a road map for where we aspire to go. They inspire us to strive for excellence, act with integrity, and impact the world for good.
4. We will foster curiosity, resilience and a love of learning.
Understanding that true education extends beyond the academic, NBCS places a high value and significant emphasis on the wellbeing and personal growth of our students. Our aim is for each student to develop social and emotional maturity alongside their academic pursuits. Through evidence-informed programs, students are equipped to build resilience, form healthy relationships, and navigate the challenges of life with confidence and grace.
5. We will exhibit a faith seen through action.
At NBCS, our ethos extends beyond the classroom into every aspect of our community life. Through a vibrant tapestry of actions, initiatives, and relationships, we bring to life the principles we hold dear, creating a dynamic environment where faith and learning flourish together.
6. We will equip students to make a meaningful impact in their world.
Our commitment to fostering a culture of excellence, faith, and holistic development is designed with a clear focus on preparing our students for the future. We aim to inspire them to lead and innovate, equipped with the knowledge, skills, and character to make a meaningful impact in their world. We understand that this path demands our staff exhibit expertise, leadership, service, and the ability to adapt to and influence an ever‑changing world.
7. We will invest in our staff for educational excellence.
NBCS works hard to be an employer of choice for staff who share our mission, our values, and commitment to excellence, and community. We actively seek out talented individuals who are passionate about shaping the future through education. We are committed to nurturing a team who are leaders in their fields, champions for our students, and exemplars of our values.
8. We will inspire and engage for a future of transformative education.
We believe in the power of physical spaces to inspire and facilitate learning. We are committed to creating environments that are only conducive to educational excellence and support creativity, collaboration, and community. Staying at the forefront of education means that we will be a calm, rational and confident advocate for learning as we grapple with an always changing educational landscape.
Final Word
We desire to provide an educational experience that is transformative for our students and contributes positively to the world. By sustaining our vision, NBCS will continue to be a place where students are inspired to learn, encouraged to explore their faith, and equipped to make a meaningful impact in their communities and beyond.
