Hit musical Mamma Mia! comes to NBCS

Year 12 students Grace Barnes and Aidan McDonald are two of the ‘super troupers’ who will be singing and dancing in the NBCS production of Mamma Mia! at the end of Term 1.

Playing lead role Donna is a dream come true for Grace, who came to NBCS in Year 10 because of the yearly musical staged by the School. “Mamma Mia is like my childhood movie. I grew up watching it with my Grandma,” she said.

Aidan has always played comic characters and enjoys both the humour and the character development in his role of Harry Bright. He said, “It’s a good opportunity to grow and learn in acting.”

The cast and crew will put on four shows of Mamma Mia! at the Marina Prior Centre between Thursday 11 April and Saturday 13 April.

One of the best parts of staging a production like Mamma Mia! is working with a whole team. “It’s very fun,” said Aidan. “It’s about other people. None of it’s for selfish purposes.”

Grace thinks the cast and crew are like family. “Being able to become a member of this beautiful community is just so inspiring and grounding,” she said.

Both students believe the musical will be a must-see. “I think audiences will love the energy,” said Grace. “Everyone’s a fan of ABBA.”
