“The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.”

– Psalm 9:9-10

“It is normal to feel afraid, anxious, overwhelmed, sad, angry, numb, tired, and other difficult feelings right now. There is nothing wrong with you–this is your body’s way of telling you to pay attention.” Mike McHargue

People, relationships, and families are complex at the best of times, and these are not the best of times. Developing insights in these areas is always helpful, and more so now. The two resources we share below are ones about child and adolescent mental health and wellbeing that staff have found helpful. Both are by experts in their field. We trust that you might find them as valuable as we have in shaping our understanding and approach. Greg Powell’s is longer and more holistic, Michael Carr-Gregg’s is more targeted to our immediate situation.

The first is an 8-minute Special Report on COVID Fatigue and Youth Mental Health by Child and Adolescent Psychologist Dr Michael Carr-Gregg.

The second is a presentation, Developing Positive Mental Health and Wellbeing which we had planned to run as a parent seminar during week one of this term. Clinical Psychologist and THEMINDSPACE Director Greg Powell has recorded his presentation so that it is available online to the NBCS parent community. It is 48 minutes long and could equally be listened to on a walk as watched. I think you might appreciate his low-key, straightforward approach. We value the opportunity to work in partnership with parents, so that we can equip our young people with the skills and strategies that they need. This seminar is relevant for all parents K-12. Let us know if you have questions or require further support. Drew Dickson (Assistant Principal Wellbeing) is happy to speak with you online or over the phone.

Further information on Greg Powell can be found here.

I trust you might find the time to look at one or both.
