A group of students headed to New Zealand in Term 3 as part of the STEM tour offered in the Global Opportunities program.
One of this highlights of this tour is Space Camp in Christchurch. Over three days, our students learned about the science of flight, life as an astronaut and parachute design and construction. They also built and flew rockets and undertook aquanautical training, which simulates the anti-gravity nature of living and working in space. (This provided endless opportunities for flips, tricks and splashing around!)
Earlier in the tour, the students explored Auckland’s technological wonders, discovered cutting-edge environmental technologies and took part in a hands-on drone workshop. They also spent time at Christchurch’s Quake City museum, took part in a STEM workshop and i-Fly, and travelled to stunning Lake Takapo for stargazing at the Dark Sky observatory.
